The lyrics of this song are a transliterator's 
nightmare. Anyways, I think this is the last 
SDB-Hemant song lyrics posted on RMIM/ISB.(Last 
time I checked this was the only one SDB-Hemant
song missing, are there any more?) 

Which dialect is this song in? And, lyrics corrections
are more than welcome. I haven't heard a lot of words
used in this song before. I just tried to decipher
them phonetically.

Most of Eastern UP (aamir-khan-lagaan-chhap-doodhwala bhaiyas, as some
would call them :-), that is east of Luckhnow and all the way to
perhaps some parts of western Bihar speaks variants of this dialect.

Just wanted to say - Not worth it, Pradeep.

Quite an insipid song really. Unfortunately, I watched this song on TV
first - so that may be a cause. One of the most idiotic picturizations
I have seen. And honestly, the tune really jars on you.

Or maybe it just pales (and pales very badly) before the other songs
in the film.

Forgettable on the whole..

More supporting case for "To Each His Own".  Or may be just a 'generation' gap.
 :-)

If you saw the song on TV only as a song, it may not have made much of an
impression.  But try to go back to the past, 1955, and take the song and the
entire film in the context of the mid-50's, and then view the song.

I disagree.. it's a nice enthu song. And the tune is more or less
traditional. And what other picturisation would you have of a song
like this? It's a traditional dance drama. And I think the cacaphony
in the end is intentional. Shivji was said to be quite a loud and
uncouth baraati. It just reflects the mood of the lyrics. As I said..
I quite enjoyed Hemant Kumar's singing in this song. Though at times I
wonder how SDB himself would have sounded singing the song... maybe
too jarring? Maybe spirited. But I know one thing for sure. If he had
sung this song himself there would not have been a remote chance of
deciphering the lyrics! :-)

I think it's got it's own charm. I prefer it anyday to Kishore's
overplayed 'Jeevan ke safar mein raahi'

Agree completely. Kudos Prithvi. When there was a request for these
lyrics a while back, I had got the cassette into my car, with the
intention of memorizing the lyrics and then typing them out at lunch
time. But after a couple of attempts I gave up. (This inspite of my
bhaiyya antecedants).

Bhojpuri my mom says. But yes eastern UP and Bihar have a pretty
similiar lingo though there are variations.

I must say from my rusty knowledge of the dialect Hemant Kumar has
done quite a decent job. The bhojpuri dialect has a certain lilt to
it. They speak with a certain sing song inflection in their voices. HK
has captured it quite well. Look at the way he says 'jaiho rahile
hum'.. pretty impressive.

A couple of corrections that caught my eye. This would be my first
pathetic attempt at ITrans. Forgive the errors :-). And yes, the
corrections are all from memory.

I believe the person playing "Shivji" is the dancer Sachin Shankar.

Perhaps this should be a different thread. However, talking about
Estern UP
songs. one of the most interesting experience I had was hearing a
Yesudas bhojpuri song. Does anyone have any Pstats on this:

jaan maarelu goriya kamaal karelu
malaa pherelu murgaa halaal karelu

Regarding such songs, I have not seen above Yesudas or the Hemant song
on screen. But I have a common picturization for these songs. The
Kolkata home I grew up in, had dozens of rickshawala bhaiyas'
kholi/chaals behind it. And couple of weeks before Holi, they would
sing some memorable melodies, some very similar to these. And then
there was always that second-octave guy :-)

 I'd think bhojpuri. Awadhii is the dialect ramcharit-manas is.
It is as easy to mistake the two as it is to mistake all south
indian languages to be "madrasi" (not even tamil!) :)
