Shirin Farhad - S Mohinder's wonderful sdtrk boasts of quite a few gems.. Lata's "guzra hua zamana", Talat's "sunaaun kisko afsana", two Hemant duets, one with Lata (aa aaja dilrubaa, na na jaa o jaan-e-wafa) and this Hemant-Asha duet among others (others= I haven't had the opportunity to hear them yet..there's another Rafi song from this movie on C-ISB). I am not sure about the availability of this sdtrk on CD/CS. Right now the movie video seems to be the only source. \startsong \stitle{ai dilaruubaa jaan\-e\-wafaa} \film{Shirin Farhad} \year{1956} \starring{Pradip Kumar, Madhubala} \singer{Hemant, Asha} \music{S Mohinder} \lyrics{Tanvir Naqvi} % %Contributor: Prithviraj Dasgupta %Transliterator: Prithviraj Dasgupta %Comments: Hemant-da series #76 % \printtitle #indian he: ai dilaruubaa jaan\-e\-wafaa tere sivaa kaun hai meraa aa: ai dilaruubaa jaan\-e\-wafaa tuu ne kyaa jaaduu kiyaa he/aa: aa aa aa aa he: Kudaa tujh ko har ik nazar se bachaa_e.N aa: terii zi.ndagii me ko_ii Gam na aa_e.N he: har ik pal musarrat kaa paiGaam laa_e.N aa: jahaa.N me du_aae.N tere saath jaa_e.N he: TuuTe na dil aramaa.N bharaa roshan rahe.n shamme\-wafaa aa: ai dilaruubaa \threedots he/aa: aa aa aa aa he: na ho khatam terii khushii kaa khazaanaa aa: terii lab na bhuule kabhii muskuraanaa he: muhabbat sunaa_e.N wafaa kaa fasaanaa aa: rahe.n meharabaa.N tujh pe zaalim zamaanaa he: dil ne tujhe dii hai du_aa phuule phale gulashan teraa aa: ai dilaruubaa \threedots #endindian \endsong I am rolling back the numbering on the Hemantda series by one, because my last post ("yaad rakhna") happened to be a duplicate. The last words in each line can be transcribed simply as "bachaye", "aaye", "laaye" and "jaaye". Similarly, "roshan rahe" should be OK, without adding the 'n' at the end. Also, "Mohabbat sunaaye" and "rahe mehrbaaN". And there is one line where a nasal "N" actually has to be added : "Tere lab na bhooleN kabhi muskuraana" A truly wonderful score by S. Mohinder. Apart from these soft melodies, there is also the sonorous deprecatory song in Rafi's peerless voice : "HazaaroN rang badlega zamaana" Afzal Post a follow-up to this message Message 4 in thread From: vsrawat@MailAndNews.com (vsrawat@MailAndNews.com) Subject: Re: ai dilaruubaa jaan\-e\-wafaa...Hemantda series #76 Newsgroups: rec.music.indian.misc View this article only Date: 2001-11-20 05:35:08 PST > he: Kudaa tujh ko har ik nazar se bachaa_e.N > aa: terii zi.ndagii me ko_ii Gam na aa_e.N > he: har ik pal musarrat kaa paiGaam laa_e.N In these three lines, ending .N is wrong. it should be as you pointed out. However, in the second line "ko_ii Gam na aa_e.N" could be correct. > aa: jahaa.N me du_aae.N tere saath jaa_e.N IN this all three .N are correct, though it messes up the rhyme. In summary, .N is used for plural, without .n is for singular in the above context. -Rawat Post a follow-up to this message Message 5 in thread From: Sudhir (sudhir99@hotmail.com) Subject: Re: ai dilaruubaa jaan\-e\-wafaa...Hemantda series #76 Newsgroups: rec.music.indian.misc View this article only Date: 2001-11-20 16:06:51 PST DVD AVAILABLE - SHIRIN FARHAD ============================= The DVD for this fim is available in USA market. Aaja, Aaaja O Jaan-e-Wafa / SHIRIN FARHAD =================================================================== The soundtrack version of this song is No Good. Both Video Tape and the DVD have a small cut in the beginning (In the film, the song also has two small snippets (Hemant solo - without the instrumentation) The 78 rpm version, which is the one which I recommend that one should listen to, is available on: CD / Hemant Kumar / ? /(not the Rare Gems) Tape / Hemant Kumar / HMV Ke Anmol Rattan / Vol ? I didn't note down the info., becuase I have it on another source. --------------------------- The other very good song from this film: Guzara Huwa Zaman .... Hafiz Khuda Tumhara / Lata, was more or less murdered by the Video Tape / DVD manufacturer. It was recorded at about 7 or 8% higher speed, as a result the voice is very shrill. You will need a Cassette Deck with Pitch Control to transfer to correct this defective recording. The film version has two additional prelude lines. The 78rpm version was released by HMV on two different LPs, under two different titles. I do not possess that tape, but I saw it in a store and AFAIR it had the Hemant-Lata duet "aa jaa jaan-e-wafaa, na jaa dilrubaa" from the same film(which is the song mentioned in another post on this thread) The video version of this Hemant-Asha song is fine. While we are on this film sdtrk, I felt that the Hemant-Lata duet "aa jaa jaan-e-wafaa" was sort of the S Mohinder equivalent of "Heer"'s(AnilB) 'aa mere ranjhnaa" and "Anarkali"(CR)'s 'ye zindagi usiki hai'....the situation of the story being similar, viz., the heroine dying after being estranged from the hero. IMO AnilB's composition among these situationally similar songs is the best, most dulcet, and yet, thanks to HMV, the rarest in availability. -Prithviraj
