Two posts back on this series, I had posted the song 'le le dard parayaa'. A not-so-often pairing in HFM: Madan Mohan and Hemant Kumar. This pair has worked together in three films: Dhun, Chhote Babu and Mohar. My favorite is this song from Mohar. If one were to single out a remarkable feature of the song, it would undoubtedly the melancholic strains of aa-aa-aa at the beginning and at the second stanza. Hemant sings these aa-aa-aa's with unsurpassable class. The song is in rupak [Arunabha S. Roy adds it is based on Raga Bageshri]. The way 'kho gayaa jaane kahaa.N' starts off in a crisp yet remorseful voice sets the perfect mood for this sad number. IMO, one of the best songs both of the singer and the composer, featured in HMV's Golden Collections of both Hemant Kumar and Madan Mohan.
