ae dil tuu kahii.n

The ongoing RJGK on Hemant Kumar highlights his genius as a composer. Although the latter part of Hemant's output in HFM is mainly in his own composition, he had sung for quite a few other composers during the early part of his career in the early 50's. Few of the composers were relatively unknown such as S. K. Pal, Mohammed Shafi. Here is a song from another composer in that category; viz., Nareswar Bhattacharyya.

Hemant demonstrates his vocal control to full extent in this song. Recently, Inranil Sen, a popular singer from Bengal commented that whereas singers of today use advanced electronic equipment for fade-in and fade-out, singers of yesteryears used only their voice to achieve the same effects. And how well they did it is exemplified in this song. "aakaash" in 'aakaash se milatii ho' first fades out slightly and then renews to full volume. Each antara first laments the despair and gloom at a medium pace and then picks up pace in the accusing 'ye duHkh bharii duniyaa' part and slowly retreats with the 'aur kahii.n le chal' to the original pace. A wonderful compsition, wonderfully sung.

In an earlier discussion on RMIM about this song, Satish-ji mentions:

Another hit song from this movie was "anokhaa jaaduugar bhagavaan". Most of the songs in this movie were composed by Dhani Ram. Only two were composed by Naresh Bhattacharyya.

And to illustrate how much fun RMIM can be, here is a snippet from one of the last messages on that thread. I have added the names of the authors of the messages in ().

(Hrishi Dixit inquired):
> > > >is one Naresh Bhattacharya (related to the singer Dhananjay > >Bhattacharya ?)
> > > > Hrishi Dixit >
(To which Ashok further inquired):
>Are you related to Balawant Dixit, Avinash Dixit, Madhuri Dixit, and > the temple purohit named Dixit in my hometown in Northern Karnataka? >
(To which Hrishi replied:)
In order: yes, yes, OH YES!, mebbe.
..Hrishi

Without further digression here are the lyrics of the song:
