chhoTaa saa ghar hogaa (sad)

For the last post on this series we had seen the sad version of 'hai apna dil to awara' - the happy and sad versions having different lyrics. Two more songs by Hemant Kumar fall in the happy/sad pair category. One of them is from Manzil - "yaad aagayi woh nashili nighahen" - which has been posted earlier on this series(#8). Both versions of "Yaad aagayi" have the same lyrics, the happy version having a stanza less. The happiness of the happy version sounds to be liquor intoxicated and the happy/sad versions would not have been clearly identifiable to me on first hearing, had not the versions been mentioned as happy/sad on the inlay card. The song in this post also has the same lyrics for both the happy and sad versions. But Hemant K's baritone lends a wonderful melancholic touch to the sad version which sets these two versions, inspite of their identical lyrics, distinctly apart. Unfortunately, the sad version of this song never featured in the movie.
